'I look so young I was asked for ID in Tesco when I bought beer': Under the microscope with Joanna Page

The Gavin & Stacey actress, 34 on being positive, sleeping anywhere and her doubts about plastic surgery
'I'm an exceptionally cheery person, positive and laid back. But I can panic,' said Joanna Page
ARE YOU AS CHEERFUL AS YOUR TV CHARACTER
I’m an exceptionally cheery person, positive and laid back. But I can panic and be self-critical — my husband James (Thornton, the actor) is really good at calming me down.
ANY HEALTH COMPLAINTS
In 2004 I was feeling so tired I’d wake up in the morning unable to move — so I went for a blood test and was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I have to take thyroxin for the rest of my life to compensate. Within a week of starting it, I felt like someone had switched a light on. I take 75mg a day except on one day a week when I take 100mg.
WHAT CAUSED IT
I’m not sure — my mum had an overactive thyroid, but when she had surgery they took out too much of the gland, so now she’s got an underactive one like me.
DO YOU SLEEP WELL
I can sleep anywhere. The other day I was doing a shoot and slept under the make-up table for 45 minutes. I’m up by 5.30am. I sleep with the blinds open and the birds start singing and the light starts streaming in.
Keep fit 'Yes, I do a lot of yoga, swimming, running and long walks with Daisy, my Jack Russell,' said Joanna
Yes, I do a lot of yoga, swimming, running and long walks with Daisy, my Jack Russell.
WOULD YOU HAVE PLASTIC SURGERY
I can't say never, but I wouldn’t do anything unnecessary or to my face. I look so young anyway that I was asked for my ID in Tesco when I bought beer. The woman was mortified when she recognised me from Gavin & Stacey.
No, I don't know how people can be so strict and have such willpower. If I did want to lose weight, I’d simply up my fruit and veg, and cut out bread and fizzy drinks.

GET YOUR FIVE A DAY
Yes, kiwi and pineapple are my favourite, as are carrots dipped in hummus. I don’t eat a lot of chocolate, but carbs are a real weakness — I love having nachos for dinner and garlic bread.
HAD ANYTHING REMOVED
Not long before I married James ten years ago, I had all four wisdom teeth out at once. He said I looked terrible when I came round: I had blood all over my face and kept repeating myself like a loon.
WAS THE RECOVERY OK
I got an infection because they didn’t put me on antibiotics, so the bottom left gap stayed open. I was working in London at the time and nearly passed out with pain.
TRIED ALTERNATIVE REMEDIES
A few years ago, I tried acupuncture when I had a really bad back and my neck completely seized. It made absolutely no difference. The only reason it got better was because I went to see a sports physio and he manipulated it.
LIKE TO LIVE FOR EVER
Yes I would, in theory, but I would like the option that I could end it when I wanted to.
